Let me introduce to you ...
"the coolest kid in the world" ...
Gosse Nijkamp

So that was some serious construction work :-) Me an my girl Berber yesterday (nineteen eleven) managed to get a new "poppetje" in this world. Actually I just managed not to faint and Berber did all the real work, but anyway :-) We're really out of our heads with this little/big miracle, YES!
Since I got the first emails from abroad back in 1995 and 1996 (and yes I wanted a kid back then already, no kidding) I always imagined with the birth of my first kid to get loads of cards from all around the world all of 'm saying "Hartelijk gefeliciteerd met de geboorte van jullie zoon!" (congrats with the birth of your son, in dutch). Therefore in case you feel like it: you're way more then welcome to send us such a card and congratulate us and thereby joining the "partying crowd" overhere :-) The address is: Evert Nijkamp, PO Box 6058, 9702 HB Groningen, The Netherlands. Anybody who does will get a card back, promis. And for now I'm gonna drink a whisky on my little son and will be falling asleep smiling from ear to ear, love, Evert
btw1 Gosse was only 14 hours old on the pic, today he looked even better :-)
btw2 within some weeks the website will be back stronger than ever before, beware!
btw3 the newest radioshows can befound here: Grunnen Rocks Radio.

NEWS june 14, 2006

Well, well, finally some news overhere, "Good Times Are Killing Me". First, foremost and actually the only thing that matters in anno domini 2006: my girl and me will become mom and dad. So now you know which human being will be #1 in the Grunnen Rocks Charts for the rest of my life. Some people asked whether they should congratulate me/us, the answer here is easy: YES!

BTW new radioshows are available through 3voor12.vpro.nl/grunnenrocks

Next up: sensible smart people can have their yearly sanity check in Rotterdam june 22-23-24. All smart people go to the PRIMITIVE FESTIVAL, see www.primitive-festival.nl. The line-up is (for the 3rd time in a row) aswesome as ever. Only people who become first-time parents this year are allowed not to be there.

So third on today's agenda: the migration of this website. Well actually this labour-of-love project was trying to grow out of my hands, but I managed to cut it short and overcome any trouble (so far). Did spend 30 hrs per week (or more) on it during the last 4 months. But now there's over 10.000 (ten thousand) releases in the database. Still lots of thing on the to-do-list though, some of 'm are listed below. Next update to follow this weekend or the next. Maybe one update in the second half of july. Starting early september we'll go back to the old weekly updates.
!!!YES we will be back, do NOT fear (or do)!!!

  1. migrating labelpages, adding releases of previously unlisted bands to the database
  2. finally processing the votes for the poll over 2005, me=stupid baboon
  3. giving away several heaps of free stuff
  4. solving several troubles with splits and compilations
  5. answering all e-mails and myspace-messages, really my inbox is growing like cancer
  6. adding all data people e-mailed me over the last year, a second cancer here
  7. getting old stuff back up again, this will not be done in 2006

NEWS april 17, 2006

Yes, a day after Jesus' alleged resurrection we're trying to resurrect here aswell. Since 2 months lots of improvements have been made. In case I feel like it I'll write a piece on it someday on my blog, but for now I'll go for a (relatively) short list of things altered/added:

  1. The future system "behind the scenes" is a DATABASE (instead of a mere bunch of separate files) and it's fully functional (at home) since a week or 3, maybe 4.
  2. The main remaining issue resides in shoving all "old" data into it, only about 3%, maybe 4%, has been done sofar.
  3. Other problems include the presentation of split releases (split meaning "2 labels releasing it" or 2 bands "on the record" or even both) and compilations. The few that are in the database now look really ugly on the website, try to find one yourself ... (don't).
  4. Since 2 or 3 weeks it's possible to keep up with the new releases. Which comes down to all new releases I got one way or the other are listed. Older releases, especially those for january and february still remain unnoticed, but that'll be repaired soon.

You as a visitor will not see much from this, except:

  1. Way more labels and bands are listed. In the future there will be no labels or bands without their own page. For a "modern" labelpage, see P.Trash Records, for a typical "modern" bandpage, see the page of excellent UK band The Long Blondes. In both case you see the releases being numbered, which is also new.
  2. Nothing was done on the Covers and Peoples listing but the number of bands listed was raised from 1701 to 1848 and 55 new labels were listed. So the migration didn't stop new bands or labels being added, this even improved and it will keep on improving even more.
  3. Minor change, but very handy, there's subpages now with listings for bands or labels starting with a particular character, see http://www.grunnenrocks.nl/bands/d/ or http://www.grunnenrocks.nl/label/i/.
  4. With, again, the exception of major labels and artists everything played at the radioshow will be listed in the future. At some later time this also will be the case for everything that was played before april 2006, but HEY! time in life is LIMITED (and damn do I regret that).
  5. Sofar nothing will be done on either layout or basic structures on the site. It's just the way in which new data is added and especially the speed in which this is done that'll be altered. In the (near) future there might be more changes, most noticeably the appearance of advertisements on the site. The latter is only done because I need to BUY TIME, dammit.

Be sure to note the addition (here) of 7 new radioshows, #172 til #178. #179 will be available tomorrow.
In case you still need to/want to hear all of 'm, be sure to START with the OLDEST ones, since they'll be offline quite (way too) soon.
Here's their titles:

  1. apr 18, 2006 #179: Beasts Of Bourbon & The Long Blondes
  2. apr 10, 2006 #178: We Start Fires & Battleship
  3. apr 3, 2006 #177: Coachwhips & The Kidnappers
  4. mar 27, 2006 #176: Grunnen Calling
  5. mar 20, 2006 #175: The Fe Fi Fo Fums & The Suspicions
  6. mar 13, 2006 #174: New Fangs & Peripherique Est
  7. mar 6, 2006 #173: Singles Only no. 5

Yessiree, making big progress! Nobody is able to see what I'm doing except me ... but one day you too will be able to see the result of all the time I spent on the "backend" of my website.
For now you'll see mentioned on 60% of the band pages the country where the band is/was coming from listed under "Address". Hope I didn't make (too many) mistakes there, if you see one be sure to tell me: [grunnen_rocks[AT]hetnet{DOT}nl].
And the mentioning of the country of origin is only a minor thing compared to what you'll see in the near future. Hope everything I have planned to do will be done before summer, but the timeframe is just a mere guess, so don't count on anything.
Anyway tomorrow there's a new radioshow being broadcasted, and last weeks' shows are now listed aswell, see:
GRR 169 "M.O.T.O. - Raw Power"
GRR 170 "Local Pride No. 2: LPG"
and
GRR 171 "La Undouce France: The Fatals!"
The poll results for 2005 will take (even) longer, hope to have those ready before april ... (no joke).

mucho love from "Happy Evert"
